National Merit Scholarship Finalist and GCS Alumni

Over the years, we have tossed around the idea of an Alumni Highlight blog but never followed through. When the exciting news that one of our alumni, Joshua Stoneback, had been accepted as a National Merit Scholarship Finalist, we knew this would be the perfect first “alumni highlight”.

According to their official website (nationalmerit.org), “The National Merit Scholarship Program was created to identify and honor scholastically talented American youth and to encourage them to develop their abilities to the fullest.” Students are first chosen to be semi-finalists based on scoring in the top 1% on their PSAT test when taken in 11th grade. Finalists then go through an application process that includes submitting academic records, an essay, and showing involvement in extracurricular activities, athletics, etc.

Josh is currently a senior at Souderton Area High School and is looking forward to attending Liberty University in the fall where he will major in Applied Mathematics and Statistics. Accepted into the Honors Program, Josh will be expected to maintain a high GPA and complete an Honors Thesis his senior year. Josh has also been awarded FULL tuition, room, and board based on his National Merit Finalist status! I know dad and mom are especially happy about this! ;)

During his time here at Grace, Josh already showed a love and aptitude for math. From fourth grade on, he was placed in the “next level” math classes which allowed him to enter the public school system well prepared for the advanced math track. Because of this, his schedule was freed up to give space for all the math electives he wanted to take.

Josh’s desire to learn and try new things was evident all throughout his elementary years. We are privileged to have been part of building his academic foundation and his love for Jesus and desire to serve Him.

Congratulations, Josh!!
